Ian McCormick is the Director of Downwind Management Consultancy Ltd which he founded in 2015 after 20 years in senior professional services roles in UK universities. Working independently or collaboratively, he offers substantial results-focused senior management and consultancy experience from a broad cross-section of UK universities and charities, specialising in research management, Doctoral Schools/PhD programmes, knowledge exchange, commercialisation and enterprise education. Ian has served on a number of national committees and as a non-executive director/trustee on numerous commercial spin-outs and charities., as well as project boards and working groups and presented at international conferences. He has served two terms on the Board of the Association for Research Managers and Administrators (ARMA).
Ian is an expert in: designing and delivering strategic change programmes; service design, evaluation and optimisation (with a particular interest in information and management systems); team building/troubleshooting with a focus on coaching and mentoring leaders in the context of change and building confident and competent teams. He is a Member of the Chartered Management Institute and a graduate of the Leadership Foundation for Higher Education and Common Purpose programmes.
