Aaron Porter has a portfolio of advisory and non-executive roles in the higher education sector, alongside being the chair of BPP University, a governor of Goldsmiths University and chair of the Board of Governance, Nelson College London.

He works extensively across HE, having supported over 75 universities so far and a portfolio of roles including Associate Director (Governance) for Advance HE (leading a national development programme for governors and board members which had over 800 participants last year, and has led over 20 Board effectiveness reviews), and Associate Director of Policy and Engagement for IDP Connect.

He was previously President of the National Union of Students during the high profile tuition fee debate in 2010-11, and has served on the Boards of UCAS, the OIA, the HEA and was the first student board member of HEFCE.

Outside of higher education, he is a governor of primary and secondary schools in the London Borough of Croydon, the education committee of the General Chiropractic Council (GCC) and has served on panel advising the National Employment Savings Trust (NEST) the workplace pension scheme established by government.

In 2014 he was awarded an honorary doctorate of laws by the University of Leicester in recognition of his contribution to higher education and the student experience.

His work in the higher education sector typically focuses on policy, the student experience, governance (with Advance HE) and strategy through projects or facilitation.
