Dawn currently works as a consultant providing expert governance services across the education sector. She has wide ranging experience of the breadth of higher education sector practice and the broader school’s sector. She has conducted governance effectiveness reviews for a number of HE institutions including chartered, post-92, specialist and private providers and for an independent school’s trust.

She developed and delivered a 3-day programme for Aspiring Governance Professionals for the Association of Higher Education Professionals (formerly the AUA) and has experience of providing training on how to write effective committee papers, committee minutes and the role of the committee secretary.

Alongside her consultancy assignments she works part-time as Clerk to the Board at Rose Bruford College having previously worked part-time as a company secretary in the private sector and as Clerk to the Governing Body at Westminster School. This followed a 20+ year career at the Open University gaining experience of resource management, risk management, strategic programme management and information rights. In her last role as Head of Governance, she was responsible for leading reviews of the effectiveness of the University’s governance arrangements across the four UK nations and managing the operation of governance across the University.

Dawn has served as a co-opted member of the Board of Trustees of the AUA and as a lay representative for Health Education England providing scrutiny and assurance to the work of the Thames Valley team supporting over 2000 doctors and dentists through their training.
