Dr Joanna Poon has more than 25 years’ experience in higher education sector in the UK, Australia and Hong Kong. Joanna’s HE academic leadership career includes Course Director for Property and Real Estate, Deakin University, Australia, Head of Property and Real Estate, Salford University and Head of Discipline – Built Environment, University of Derby.
Joanna is Principal Fellow of Higher Education Academy (PFHEA), Fellow of Chartered Institute of Building (FCIOB) and Fellow of Leadership Foundation for Higher Education (LF Fellow).
Joanna’s external roles include Chair of Quality Assurance Agency Subject Benchmarking Statement for Land, Construction, Real Estate and Surveying published in 2024. Joanna also acts assessor, reviewer and subject matter specialist for several government and regulatory bodies for HE and FE providers in the UK and overseas. Joanna also has extensive engagement with industry and professional bodies to nurture mutual beneficial relationship with higher education institutions.
Joanna led built environment departments to secure professional bodies’ accreditation of undergraduate, postgraduate, degree apprenticeship and collaborative partnership courses. She led curricula development, enhancement and other interventions leading to successful outcomes of key HEI KPIs, such as National Student Survey (NSS), Postgraduate Taught Education Survey (PTES) and of Longitudinal Education Outcomes (LEO).
