For the last 25 years Nigel worked in higher education, and between 2014 and 2021 as a University Dean of Health Sciences and then Life Sciences and Education. He served on the University Executive Board, led a staff team of 250 and managed a budget of £25million. In these roles he led on new Faculty strategies, reviews and restructures, as well as leading on University wide strategies for staff well-being and engagement. He has extensive experience as an Investigator in student complaints and staff disciplinaries, and defended the University in legal cases.
Prior to that he held roles as a Deputy Dean, Associate Dean for Research, Head of Department and before that a senior lecturer in sport. Prior to his role in Universities, he was in the public and charity sectors, working in sport and inclusion as a coach and national development officer. He has published a full student text-book and articles in peer reviewed journals.
Nigel is now a level 7 qualified Executive Coach and Mentor and uses his extensive experience in his own business as a coach, mentor and consultant. He is a ‘people person’ who has coached individuals, groups and teams in-person and online, and as a consultant has provided Universities with bespoke reports to support executive decisions.
Nigel’s VC concluded his reference in 2021 with ‘Nigel has served the University with dedication and distinction and has shown loyalty, commitment, and leadership in all of his various roles’.
