Dr Julie Scanlon is a consultant and coach with over 14 years’ experience working as an academic and is also a former institutional Athena SWAN Manager. She left academia in 2017 and now supports higher education (and other) organisations with consultancy and training in equality, diversity and inclusion, offering a broad range of topic areas but particularly specialising in gender and LGBT inclusion.

Julie is a published academic author on the representation of gender and sexual orientation in contemporary culture. She brings this expertise to her consultancy and training, ensuring up-to-date, advanced, nuanced understanding of contemporary issues to her work, alongside her skills in communicating with a broad range of stakeholders in the HE context. She is experienced in qualitative research, including conducting focus groups and interviews.

Julie also offers 1-2-1 coaching and holds a coaching qualification from ILM, with experience of coaching many higher education professionals.

She is a facilitator experienced in creating and holding safe spaces for conversations, particularly around potentially sensitive topics of diversity and inclusion.

She is an action learning facilitator, with an endorsed certificate in advanced action learning facilitation from ILM.
