Paula is a highly effective leader with a PhD and Advance HE Senior Fellowship (SFHEA) and experience of leading complex university departments, organisational change and substantial budgets. She has 35 years’ experience of working in different types of universities in the UK and New Zealand with 20 years in senior leadership roles, such as Pro Vice-Chancellor & Dean, Dean of School, Professor, and Head of Research. Paula has led a range of disciplines, including health, sport and social work and is able to work beyond these disciplines. She is adept at working in organisations with growth opportunities as well as in crisis situations. She also has clinical experience gained in the UK, Germany and the Netherlands.
Paula is experienced in using quantitative and qualitative data for in-depth understanding of issues in organisational cultures and education and which may impact on the student experience and success, as well as staff wellbeing and performance. She prioritises equality, diversity, and inclusion in her work. Paula is a confident communicator with over 100 academic publications and extensive experience of presenting her work at conferences and workshops. Examples of key projects include holistic subject reviews, portfolio / course development, creation of new – and redesign of – departments / Schools, income generation, and consultancy.
