Rob Cuthbert runs the Practical Academics partnership with Marie Kirkland, providing advice, support and problem-solving for management, governance and policy issues in higher education and the health service. He is an internationally known academic in the field of higher education policy and management, a keynote speaker at academic conferences, journal editor and current editor of the Newsletter and Blog for the Society for Research into Higher Education He has taught and been an external examiner for undergraduate, Masters and PhD/EdD programmes in a wide range of universities in the UK and overseas. With over 20 years’ experience as Dean, Pro and Deputy Vice Chancellor in academic, resources and strategic planning roles, Rob has also worked in national agencies in the UK on funding, widening participation and teaching and learning strategy. Consultancy assignments include work for governments and HE institutions in Africa, China, Europe, North America, Georgia and Albania. Previous roles include: chair of the Society for Research into Higher Education; chair of the Independent Dispute Resolution Advisory Service for higher education; university and college governor; charity and pensions trustee. He is a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences and a Fellow of the SRHE.
