Dr Alina Congreve is an independent education consultant specialising in higher education, sustainability and pedagogical innovation. She brings over 20 years’ experience including as a programme leader, researcher, educational developer and facilitator, with a strong track record in interdisciplinary curriculum design and challenge-led learning.

Her work focuses on supporting universities, professional membership organisations, and research funders to respond to complex societal challenges through teaching, research and institutional strategy. She has particular expertise in sustainability education, “wicked problems” pedagogy and embedding real-world, partner-based learning into curricula.

Specific consultancy foci include:

  1. Strategic and Curriculum Development:

Design and review of programmes and modules, including interdisciplinary and challenge-based provision. Embedding sustainability and the Sustainable Development Goals across curricula and institutional strategy. Development of employability-focused and externally engaged learning.

  1. Pedagogical Research and Evidence-Informed Practice:

Design and delivery of research and evaluation using methods including: semi-structured interviews, focus groups, workshop-based inquiry and systematic literature reviews.
Synthesis of qualitative and mixed-method evidence to inform educational strategy and practice. Recent clients include: Advance HE, CIEEM (Professional membership organisation for ecologists), and Vitae. 

  1. Academic and Professional Development:

Design and delivery of staff development workshops and programmes for academic staff, researcher developers and professional services. Areas include curriculum design, stakeholder engagement, research impact, and the responsible and effective use of generative AI in academic practice. Extensive experience as a Vitae Associate, delivering researcher development in areas such as funding, career development and professional effectiveness.

  1. AI in Education and Research Practice:

Practical application of generative AI to support research and teaching, including systematic literature reviews, data analysis and visualisation of findings. Advising on responsible, ethical and effective integration of AI into staff development.

  1. Facilitation and Stakeholder Engagement:

Design and facilitation of workshops bringing together diverse stakeholders across sectors.
Co-design, systems thinking and participatory methods to support collaboration and shared problem-solving.

  1. Policy, Research and Advisory:

Research and writing on sustainability, climate change, sustainable tourism, and the built environment. Development of evidence-based briefings and strategic insights; communicating research findings to public sector audiences.
